On October 5th, 2007, Frater Nik Gallegos was rushed to the hospital by friends and Fraternity brothers unconscious from the overconsumption of alcohol. Two days later he was removed from life support while his family and friends held a candlelight vigil outside his window. See the KTRE article here.

This was an incredibly difficult and challenging time for our Chapter and its' members. All the pain and sadness that we were experiencing we decided to channel into something productive that would honor his memory, and hopefully help prevent such a terrible thing from happening to someone else.

In honor of Nik, the Miss Greek SFA Pageant was initiated by the brothers of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity in the fall of 2007 as a charitable fraternity philanthropy whose proceeds are to benefit Mothers Against Drunk Driving. In only 4 short years, the pageant has raised over 7000 dollars for Mothers Against Drunk Driving! In 2009, Miss Greek SFA was also awarded SFA's Program of the Year! Miss Greek SFA is one of the most anticipated events each Spring. See the Pine Log article here.
The Miss Greek SFA pageant involves two contestants from each sorority. The contestants are judged on four categories: casual walk, formal dress, a talent portion, and a question and answer round (which will consist of questions related to the responsible use of alchohol). The audience is also given a ticket as soon as they enter the ballroom, and once the pageant is over, the audience members use that ticket to vote for the contestant they want to win. The judges are comprised of SFA faculty and staff.
Each year, a MADD representative is present as a judge, and on hand to recieve an appropriately oversized check.
The men of the Nu Xi Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and Mothers Against Drunk Driving would like to take the time to give heartfelt thanks to each individual sorority member, both past and present, as well as the numerous other people and sponsors who have contributed to the success of the Miss Greek Pageant. Without your help, this event would not be possible.
